Researchers show large language models can link pseudonymous social media posts to real identities with up to 68% recall and 90% precision, vastly outperforming older methods. This threatens online anonymity, enabling doxxing, profiling, and surveillance, and demands new technical and policy safeguards.
Physicists used a layered boron nitride crystal, rich in “virtual photons,” to weaken superconductivity in an unusual organic superconductor without shining real light. This shows vacuum-like electromagnetic fields can tune superconductivity, adding a new control knob beyond temperature, pressure, and chemistry.
The survey shows AI is mainstream for engineers: 95% use it weekly, most for over half their work. Anthropic’s Claude Code and Opus/Sonnet models dominate, especially at smaller companies and senior levels, while GitHub Copilot leads in big enterprises.
Google is shortening Chrome’s stable and beta release cycle from four weeks to two starting September, beginning with Chrome 153. Updates will be smaller but more frequent across desktop, Android, and iOS, while enterprise Extended Stable remains on an eight-week schedule.
MyFitnessPal acquired fast-growing AI calorie-counting startup Cal AI, founded by two teenagers, keeping its app independent and team onboard. Cal AI now uses MFP’s massive food database, strengthening MFP’s position while targeting users who prefer speedier, less precise tracking than MyFitnessPal’s detailed logging.
