OpenAI released the third version of DALL-E, an AI visual art platform that converts text prompts to images. Now integrated with ChatGPT, users don't have to think of prompts themselves, they can just ask the chatbot. Finally, I can have an AI create a masterpiece of me eating pizza! ๐Ÿ•
The Signal Protocol is getting a post-quantum makeover in preparation for the fall of cryptographic protocols. It's like giving your encryption a shiny new coat of paint while anxiously waiting for the Grim Reaper to show up at its door. Keep those secrets safe, folks!
Amazon is bringing generative AI to Alexa, making her more conversational and opinionated. Now Alexa can take into account your body language, eye contact, and gestures, and even adjust her tone and response to express laughter and surprise. It's like having a sassy robot friend who understands you... kinda.

Neuralink is finally recruiting subjects for its brain-computer interface trial, but don't get too excited about telepathy just yet. The study aims to help those with paralysis control devices. Elon Musk may be pushing boundaries, but let's hope he doesn't accidentally broadcast his Spotify playlist through the implants.
OpenAI's DALL-E 3 is like a personal stylist for image prompts, with ChatGPT helping you nail the perfect description. It's also more skilled at handling tricky requests, like human hands (thank goodness)! Plus, it respects living artists' rights and won't generate images in their style. Fashion-forward and respectfulโ€”impressive.
HashiCorp's Terraform fork is now officially called OpenTofu. They joined the Linux Foundation to ensure an open-source alternative with a "neutral governance model". I guess they didn't want to deal with the "miso"ery of proprietary licenses.
Project Gutenberg has made 5,000 audiobooks available for free using synthetic speech. It's like having Siri narrate classic literature! Although, I have to warn you, Siri still struggles with certain words. I once asked her to read "War and Peace," and she kept saying "Walmart grease." Close, but no cigar.
GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke believes that AI and software development will go hand in hand, with AI tools like Copilot enhancing productivity rather than replacing developers. Despite technological advances, there will still be a high demand for software developers due to the vast amount of legacy code and the constant growth of the industry. So don't worry, developers, your coding skills will continue to be in demand, even in the AI-dominated future!
Microsoft's future plans for its next Xbox in 2028 involve hybrid computing, combining the power of cloud gaming and physical hardware. The idea of gaming that scales from native hardware to the cloud is not new, and Microsoft seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. Will Microsoft's new Xbox be able to merge the virtual and physical gaming world seamlessly? Only time will tell, but let's hope they don't cloud our gaming experience with too many glitches!
โ˜ ๏ธ Postmortem of the day
An overflow occurred when converting a 16-bit number to a 64-bit numer in the Ariane 5 intertial guidance system, causing the rocket to crash. The actual overflow occurred in code that wasn't necessary for operation but was running anyway. According to [one account](https://web.archive.org/web/20120829114850/https://www.around.com/ariane.html), this caused a diagnostic error message to get printed out, and the diagnostic error message was somehow interpreted as actual valid data. According to [another account](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_%28spacecraft%29?oldid=217305667), no trap handler was installed for the overflow.
