General Motors plans to cut off access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for its future lineup of electric vehicles and instead offer an in-car operating system, which its head of operating systems believes will offer a more holistic, integral experience than projection systems currently allow, though the backlash from customers and auto analysts has been significant, even though GM is taking a phased approach and intends to continue to allow phone pairing via Bluetooth for hands-free calls, voice texting, and streaming music, while its gas-powered vehicles will continue to offer access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Elon Musk plans to develop his own chatbot called Truth GPT, which will be a "maximum truth-seeking AI," aimed to create more good than harm and to understand the nature of the universe, with concerns about AI being too powerful to manipulate public opinion or even cause "civilizational destruction."
Sega is acquiring Angry Birds developer Rovio for $775 million in order to benefit from Rovio's mobile gaming expertise and expand their IP across different formats.
Reddit has announced that it will begin charging for use of its API, but the API will remain free for developers who want to build apps and bots that help people use Reddit, as well as for researchers who wish to study Reddit for strictly academic or non-commercial purposes.
WhatsApp and Signal have teamed up to protest against the UK's Online Safety Bill, which they claim could outlaw end-to-end encryption and compromise privacy and safety, according to an open letter signed by both app heads and five other encrypted chat apps. The executives say that the bill provides "no explicit protection for encryption" and suggest it could enable regulator Ofcom to "nullify the purpose of end-to-end encryption".
