HSBC has agreed to buy Silicon Valley Bank's UK operations for Β£1 in a move arranged by the UK government to save British tech startups and investors from big losses after the US bank's collapse. The acquisition followed overnight talks between Downing Street, the Bank of England and HSBC bosses including CEO Noel Quinn, as authorities rushed to protect the finances of Silicon Valley Bank UK's 3,500 customers including venture capital investors and hundreds of tech startups that feared they would go bust if their deposits were wiped out.

South Korea's planned raise in its maximum weekly working hours to 69 has been put on hold after protests from millennials and generation Z who claimed that the move would damage their work-life balance and risk their health. President Yoon Suk-yeol has ordered government agencies to reconsider the measure and communicate better with the public, particularly with younger people. The proposed increase followed complaints from business groups that the current limit of 52 hours was hampering their ability to meet deadlines. Unions argued that the increase would simply force people to work longer hours.
Scientists are homing in on ways to boost the brain's cleaning system during deep sleep, which could ultimately help keep our brains healthier for longer and reduce the risk of dementia and other brain diseases. The glymphatic system is the biological "brain washing" function of sleep, which filters out toxins and is important for brain health. Scientists are investigating ways to optimise and reboot deep sleep as we age. The key is to focus on sleep quality, which means avoiding coffee, alcohol, exercise and electronic devices in the run-up to bed and maintaining a dark bedroom overnight.
