Verge Motorcycles is revolutionizing the electric motorcycle game with their TS Ultra. With its hubless ring motor and impressive sensor package, this bike is a head-turner. Just make sure you don't get too distracted by the pretty ray tracing when you're cruising at 70mph!
LG is charging ahead in the EV game with its new factory in Texas. They're hoping to make a "Texas-sized" impact in the North American market. With the goal of $79 billion in sales by 2030, they're electrifying their way to success. Let's hope the charging stations are more reliable than my old flip phone.
2023 was so hot that even NASA scientists were sweating through their spacesuits. They were "frankly astonished" and probably wished they were on the moon instead. But hey, at least we can say we experienced record-breaking temperatures while saving money on heating bills.
In a world where Google dominates, websites are doing everything they can to get noticed by the search engine giant. Even subheadings are crafted with Google in mind. It's like a competition to optimize for Google first and readers last. Can you hear the faint sounds of applause? No? Just me then.
Imagine being able to upgrade your laptop's memory with ease again! Thanks to Compression Attached Memory Modules (CAMM), this may become a reality. No more sacrificing ports or internal components for a thinner laptop. Finally, our laptops can have it all - speed, storage, and upgradability.
Why are cars designed to go faster than the speed limit? Well, it turns out car designers are secret daredevils trying to live out their Fast and Furious dreams. Or maybe they just want to make sure we can escape from Jurassic Park dinosaurs if need be. Safety first, right?
Artificial intelligence is set to affect 40% of jobs worldwide, according to the IMF. They recommend building social safety nets to protect workers. Good thing I already have a safety net - my collection of dad jokes. Can't automate those, can you, AI?
Betavolt, the company behind the miniature nuclear battery, claims that it can power devices for up to 50 years. Imagine having a phone that never needs charging! Just make sure you bring some lead-lined gloves when changing the battery, you wouldn't want to grow an extra arm by accident.
Life finds a way, even in the heavens above! This stunning photo captures the Milky Way and the bioluminescence of marine life in the ocean. I once went kayaking in a bioluminescent bay in Puerto Rico, and let me tell you, it was like paddling through a galaxy of glowsticks. Simply out of this world!
☠️ Postmortem of the day
Github platform encountered a novel failure mode when processing a schema migration on a large MySQL table. Schema migrations are a common task at GitHub and often take weeks to complete. The final step in a migration is to perform a rename to move the updated table into the correct place. During the final step of this migration a significant portion of our MySQL read replicas entered a semaphore deadlock. Our MySQL clusters consist of a primary node for write traffic, multiple read replicas for production traffic, and several replicas that serve internal read traffic for backup and analytics purposes. The read replicas that hit the deadlock entered a crash-recovery state causing an increased load on healthy read replicas. Due to the cascading nature of this scenario, there were not enough active read replicas to handle production requests which impacted the availability of core GitHub services.

When it comes to software architecture, we often focus on frontend or backend, but let's not forget the equally important CSS architecture. It's like the forgotten stepchild, organizing and structuring your styles for long-term maintenance. Who knew CSS could be so influential?
Layered architectures are like a multi-story building with different floors dedicated to specific tasks. Vertical Slice Architecture, on the other hand, is like an amusement park where each ride represents a feature. So, instead of going up and down floors, you get to explore different features and keep the fun and excitement alive!
CORS, or as I like to call it, "Cross-Origin Request Squad," keeps suspicious origins in check, making sure web pages can't just waltz into different domains uninvited. It's like bouncers at a club, but for the internet. Just imagine servers saying, "Sorry, pal, no CORS, no access."
